The Birmingham Pride Carnival Parade is on Saturday, 25th September and is largest Pride march happening this year!  Whatever church or faith community you are part of, you are welcome to join us to stand and march in celebration and affirmation of LGBTQ+ folks and the gift they/we are to communities of faith, spirituality and justice.

If you would like to be part of the Christians at Pride presence at the parade here’s what you need to know:

  1. We’ll be meeting at 10:30AM on the Green at the Church at Carrs Lane for a short time of prayer for Pride followed by a safety briefing at 10:45. Everyone marching with Christians at Pride will need to arrive at 10:45 to register to participate. (We are not asking folks to register in advance.) NOTE: This is a different meeting location and time from previous years as we have been asked to avoid overcrowding Victoria Square and are fairly early in the line-up.
  2. After our briefing, at 11am we’ll split into 3 groups: (1) Those marching will head up to Victoria Square to take their place in the line-up. (2) A group of Clergy/ Ministers will stand in the crowd with a banner to stand between marchers and anti-Pride protesters. (3) A group will remain at the roadside near Carrs Lane to hand stickers out and cheer on the marchers.
  3. We would love you to wear your purple Christians at Pride T-shirt if you have one (you can order one here – there will be just a few available to borrow on the day) or if you are clergy please do wear your clerical clothing. You can add some rainbow bling to your Pride outfit of course if you’d like (or wear something else if you’ve got a fabulous Pride outfit you are planning). If you have a sign/ placard with the name of your church or group on it, each church or group is welcome to carry one of those (whether printed or home made).
  4. Pride organisers are asking groups to take Covid safety precautions. We are asking everyone participating with Christians at Pride to wear face masks (unless exempt), to carry and use hand sanitiser frequently and to maintain social distancing where possible (especially when marching).  If anyone is experiencing Covid-19 symptoms or has had a positive test result in the last 10 days or told to isolate by track and trace, please do not attend.

A few other helpful things to know:

If you would like to march but are concerned about the length of the route, Pride is offering a shorter ‘Accessible Route’ for anyone from any of the groups.  If you are interested in this, please email naomi@birminghampride.com directly. Another alternative is to be part of our Christians at Pride roadside crew.

The NCP car park are offering a parking discount for Pride.  If you download their Parking Pass App and enter the saver ID brumpride you can park for 24 hours for £8.

On Sunday 26th September at 10:30 there is a special Pride Service being hosted by the Church at Carrs Lane – you are invited to come along and bring some lunch to eat on the Green afterwards.

Then on Sunday afternoon 2-5pm Inclusive Gathering Birmingham are hosting a Pride Picnic at Edgbaston Quaker Meeting House at Five Ways – there will be cake and drinks available, and a film with short Pride stories and memories will be show at 3pm.  If you can’t come along, the film will be premiered on Facebook Live and YouTube at 3pm.

We’re looking forward to seeing you Pride Weekend as we celebrate the joy and blessing that LGBTQ+ people are to our city and how deeply loved LGBTQ+ folks are by God and by us.

Happy Pride!
