Boxing Day: IGB Unorthodox Walk

December 26, 2021
03:00 pm - 04:00 pm

Details
Date:

December 26

Time:

03:00 pm - 04:00 pm

On Boxing Day we’re replacing our usual IGB Sunday gathering with a synchronised but geographically dispersed group walk punctuated by a series of simple, creative tasks. You can join in from wherever you are on Boxing Day, on your own or with a group.
Inspired by Stirchley-based walk collective Walkspace and Manchester’s Loiterers Resistance Movement, all you need for this creative walk is a smartphone (if you’re in a group you only need one smartphone) and to join the IGB Unorthodox Walks Facebook group.
The walk will begin at 3pm on 26th December. You choose your starting point. Creative instructions will be posted up in our Facebook group at ten-minute intervals (update your settings to receive ALL posts from the group). This will result in a roughly 60-minute synchronised but geographically dispersed group walk.
You are encouraged (but not required) to share your creative discoveries (via photos and sound recordings) in the IGB Unorthodox Walks Facebook group after the walk is completed. All the findings will be brought together into a digital art piece.
Taking part in a walk like this means you can slow down and notice features of your local environment you might have otherwise missed or taken for granted. In fact, you might find yourself heading home afterwards, as our friend Andy Howlett says “with heightened senses and a renewed alertness to the fantastical eruptions of the familiar.”

About IGB…
Inclusive Gathering Birmingham is a diverse church gathered together by a common dream: to become a truly inclusive faith community, where doubt and difference are a welcome part of our journey together.
We are a learning community, constantly growing and changing to live out this vision in new and expanding ways.
When we say “inclusion”, we mean much more than mere tolerance or welcome. We believe God wants us all to know that we actually belong. That means people of every race and ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, age and background, HIV status, ability and disability, theological and political conviction are loved, invited, and fully included.
