Inclusive Gathering Birmingham is thrilled to be hosting this special UK screening of the landmark feature-length documentary 1946: THE MISTRANSLATION THAT SHIFTED CULTURE.

The screening will be taking place at Mockingbird Cinema in Digbeth (a short walk from Birmingham New Street Station).

Seats are limited and so booking is essential via eventbrite.

We are making tickets free to make them accessible to all, but if you are able to make a donation toward the cost of the screening, please select that option when ordering your ticket. Recommended donation is £5-10 per ticket.

The cinema is wheelchair accessible and the screening will be captioned.

Following the screening, you are invited to stick around for some social time and/ or informal ‘first response’ discussion of the film in the cafe/ bar area at Mockingbird.  There will be a box where you can put questions and observations for us to consider at our gathering next week.

ABOUT THE FILM
1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture is a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946.

It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice.

Featuring commentary from prominent scholars as well as opposing pastors, including the personal stories of the film’s creators, 1946 is at once challenging, enlightening, and inspiring.

While other documentaries have been successful in their attempt to treat the symptom of homophobia in the church, 1946 is working to diagnose and treat the disease – Biblical Literalism.
