Queer Virtue

On Sunday 14th February we’ll be gathering at 4pm on Facebook Live & YouTube for song, stories and spiritual reflections (with a bit of banter in the chat).
This is the monthly Sunday when we orient our worship gathering and 5:15 Zoom Discussion around a book or a podcast … This month we are reflecting on Rev. Elizabeth M. Edman’s book Queer Virtue: What LGBTQ People know about Life & Love and how it can revitalise Christianity.
We’re also using this time together to introduce the season of Lent. And we’ll have a special visit from Queer Virtue author Elizabeth Edman who talks with Danielle about “Glitter+Ash Wednesday” and how it started in NYC (and how we are carrying on the tradition at IGB this year).
You are invited to engage fully in the gathering and discussion, whether or not you read the book. You can read more (and watch some videos) about Queer Virtue at
Welcome – Danielle
Song – A Billion Times (Ali & Ellie)

Question for Sharing (David) – Elevator pitch. What would you immediately tell or not tell a stranger about yourself?

Prayer (Cam)

God, we ask that in your loving persistence you pry loose what keeps us stuck inside ourselves.

Reach into us with power and love so fully that we overflow toward the world around us.

Dissolve the handholds where we stubbornly cling to guilt and self-condemnation. Shake apart our attachments to fear and judgment. Deep inside, we doubt that anyone could ever love us as we are, even you God, our creator and eternal lover. You are always closer to us than the air we breathe but so often we are unaware and inattentive.

Forgive us when we wander off. Teach us the truth that you love us completely, right where we are, right now. May that truth transform our lives and set us free. (Written by Barbara Hargrave)

Scripture Reading (Elijah)

Ephesians 1:18 – 23

“I ask that your minds may be opened to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, 19 and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength 20 which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world. 21 Christ rules there above all heavenly rulers, authorities, powers, and lords; he has a title superior to all titles of authority in this world and in the next. 22 God put all things under Christ’s feet and gave him to the church as supreme Lord over all things. 23 The church is Christ’s body, the completion of him who himself completes all things everywhere.”

Reflection (10-15 minutes) – Lent & Queer Virtue (Sam & Julia)

What’s Coming up (Danielle) *

Blessing: “May we live fully, love wastefully and have the courage to be all that God has created us to be.”
