UPDATE: Due to Covid concerns, our IGB Retreat has been rescheduled from January to May 2022.
We’re excited to announce our first IGB Weekend Retreat at The Greenhouse at Barnes Close … a retreat centre in the beautiful Waseley Hills in Bromsgrove (right near Brum).
IGB’s May Weekend will be unhurried time together, relaxed activities, food and some reflective spiritual time – a few of our activities will have an online element for those who can’t join us in person.
We’ll be together just over 24 hours – the venue is close enough to Birmingham for many folks to choose to sleep in their own beds, but there is accommodation for those who need to/ want to stay over. You can also opt to come for just the Saturday afternoon/evening (if 24 hours seems too long for you!). This is an accessible venue with some accessible accommodation.
Saturday 7th May
ARRIVE 10-12 – Coffee, chats, finding rooms
12:30-2 – Lunch together & Welcome
2-4 – Optional Activities (walk, games, chats, crafts etc… )
4 :00-6:00– Interactive Afternoon Gathering with music & discussion
6:00-7:30 – A Celebratory Evening Meal Together
8pm – Pub Quiz/ Social
9-11 – Drinks, Cake, Board Games and/or Film
Sunday 8th May
8-10 – Informal breakfast ( cereal, coffee, tea, pastries)
10:00 -11:00 – Informal morning worship gathering – Lectio Divina, Prayer, Communion & Music
(Depart Barnes Close) An optional walk followed by an optional Pub Sunday Lunch nearby at the Swallow’s Nest
COST – Pay what you are able
We want to make this retreat accessible and affordable for anyone who would like to come along so we are setting a recommended donation, rather than a set price for everyone.
We estimate that the retreat will cost about £30 per person, but you can pay any amount that is affordable for you. If you are in a position to contribute £50 to help cover the costs of others, we’d really appreciate that.
Children under 15 need to register, but don’t need to pay. We’ll plan for childcare during the main sessions based on who is coming along.
(NOTE: Donations will go to cover the costs of onsite food and venue hire. We are paying a fixed price for the whole retreat centre, not per bedroom, so the cost is the same for all who participate regardless of whether or not they stay over. If more is donated than is needed to cover retreat costs, anything left over will go to cover other IGB activities and events.)
Once you have signed up for the retreat for EventBrite there is an additional form to fill in to let us know about your travel and accommodation needs and preferences.
Public transportation options from Birmingham are limited, and so we’ll be helping organise ride-shares or a minibus for those not arriving by car.
We’d like to give priority in onsite accommodation to those with accessibility needs, those who live furthest away and those who are not able to easily travel back and forth from home. There are options for single accommodation, but for those who are comfortable doing so, opting to share a room (with a partner or friend of your choice) will enable us to accommodate more people onsite.
If you’d prefer offsite hotel options nearby you’ll need a car, but here are some reasonably priced suggestions:
Bromsgrove Hotel & Spa (2 miles away)
Travelodge Bromsgrove Marlbrook (2.6 miles away)
Premiere Inn South Rubery (4 miles away)
If you would like to arrive on the Friday evening rather than the Saturday morning, you can contact the Greenhouse at Barnes Close directly to book a room for an additional night onsite (additional cost of £20 pp).
You are welcome to join us, whether you are brand new to IGB or part of the furniture. We’re a friendly bunch and time together will be a great way to get to know us. If you’ve got ANY questions, please feel free to email
